Soups and nutrition

Soup has always been part of our world of food from a very early age and, from time immemorial, has been part of our diet.  However, it is now more than ever in the public eye. The National Food and Health Scheme recommends we eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Soup, and more particularly, ready to serve soups, are a simple and tasty way to achieve this goal. A 250ml bowl of soup corresponds to 1 to 2 portions of vegetables!

The best about vegetables

Vegetables are an essential source of minerals, trace elements, fibre, vitamins and antioxydants. In order to keep in all the goodness of these nutrients, the preparation and cooking methods are extremely important. La Potagère uses the UHT process (the same heat treatment used for carton milk), which accounts for about a 30% loss in vitamins but conserves soup in cartons with the addition of preservatives. As well as the benefits of the vegetables in the soup, its hydration capacity through the addition of soup water to the vegetable water content should be mentioned. Moreover, all vegetables contain fibre which contribute to digestive regularity.

How to get children to eat vegetables

Mums often have a hard time getting their children to eat vegetables. However, their bodies couldn’t manage without their contribution. La Potagere does everything possible to make vegetables as appetizing and as easy to eat as possible for children: smooth textures, sweeter flavours and adapted formats.

Soup and weight regulation

Served hot, soup is eaten slowly and quickly fills you up, favouring better energy intake control during the meal.
Several international scientific studies indicate that eating soup plays a positive role in weight control. They indicate that there is an inverse relationship between the Body Mass Index (BMI) and the amount of soup ingested.

Available vegetables

Eating vegetables every day can represent a considerable budget. However, today it is important that everybody be able to eat healthily. Soups make it possible for all the family to taste and enjoy the benefits of vegetables at a reasonable price. Why do without?

Did you know?

La Potagère has adopted a policy to reduce the levels of salt in a range of soups in accordance with the recommendations of the AFSSA (French Agency for food Safety) in 2002. This reduces the salt content in certain product ranges by an average of  20%
La Potagère pays careful attention to the reduction of lipid (fat) content. Certain recipes are prepared without added fat, which means an average of only 32 kcal per 100ml can be reached in the whole range.
